Elements of a Dream Bedroom – (ORC Week 4)
It’s Week 4 of the One Room Challenge and if you’re new here you should probably go back to Week 1 and get yourself up to speed. But in case you’re lazy like me let me give you the Coles’ Notes version. We’re 4 weeks into a 6 week challenge where we’re creating our Dream Bedroom. There. That wasn’t hard at all! But with just 2 weeks to go, there’s no time to waste so let’s get down to business.
This week was all about making decisions – the most important of which was what to do about the carpet. If you’ve been following along on Instagram & saw our stories over the last few days you probably already know that we decided to bite the bullet & replace the carpet. Doing so drastically increased our budget for the bedroom makeover, but ultimately Kes and I decided that if installing hardwood was something we’d want to do eventually, it just doesn’t make sense to have to tear apart the room a second time after it’s all done & pretty.
Our plan was to match the 7″ finger-joined maple hardwood that we have throughout the rest of the house but as it turns out, our wood has been discontinued by the manufacturer. We were however able to get the 5″ non-finger-joined version in the same colour as the hardwood we have – and score 1 for us, it happened to be on sale! The wood needs to sit and get acclimatized for a couple of days so our mission this weekend will be laying it in the bedroom.
With the flooring sorted, the next decision we made was on an area rug. We spent a lot of time scouring the internet to find one that we liked, but as it turns out a random lunch time trip to Homesense would turn up exactly what we were looking for!
If you’ve seen our family room you know that I love a bold graphic rug. So it should be no surprise what drew me to this one. I just love the geometric print, and the colours are perfect. We’ll definitely be able to pull our fuchsia purple accent out of it.
This week we also made the decision to take our DIY nightstands off the list. With just 2 weeks left and the addition of the flooring install, we decided that making 2 nightstands was just a bit too ambitious for the amount of time we have left. We found these cute mid-century modern inspired nightstands at Jysk and think they’ll work nicely as an alternative.
This week we also finally made some progress on the reclaimed pallet wood feature wall. Last weekend’s weather held up which allowed us to finish taking the pallets apart and get the boards cleaned up.
They still need to be sanded and stained but we’re getting there.
Checking in with our to-do list things are looking a little more optimistic than last week – except that we still have most of the big things left to complete. It’s officially crunch time!
