Well we made it to Week 2 of our One Room Challenge. If you missed week one, we shared our plans for the family room. This week we’ll be focusing on our DIY media wall.
As I mentioned before, the tv wall is the focal point of our family room. Movie nights are a regular part of our family routine and as a football household, it’s where you’ll find us any given Sunday (see what I did there, lol). As far as focal points go, however, just mounting a tv on the wall leaves a bit to be desired.
Our plan instead is to mix wood and high-gloss panels, to create a modern & eye-catching canvas that will be the backdrop for the tv. We’ll add a wall mounted console to house all of our media components, and finally build some floating shelves to give us a place to add some colour with art & accessories.
The Plan: DIY Media Wall
Kes and I took this week work off to try to focus on the wall feature, but with the Canadian Thanksgiving Holiday making this a short week, we haven’t had quite as much progress as we hoped. We’re getting there though and the week isn’t quite over yet. We’ll share a full ‘How to’ DIY post later on creating the media wall, but for now here are a few in-progress shots.
The rest of the space is taking shape slowly as well. For starters, our couch arrived!
We’ve got a tiny DIY planned to take this couch to the next level so stay tuned for that.
And remember that rug that we said was the inspiration for the whole main floor?? Well that arrived too!
No you’re not seeing double. There are 2 of them – it’s actually a funny story, but I’ll get into that another day…
We also did a bit of window shopping and picked out a few accessories we think might work for the space.
So that’s our update! What did you guys get up to this week?
Have you had a chance to check out the other One Room Challenge spaces? There are some fantastic room transformations underway! If you haven’t yet, be sure to head over to Calling It Home to check them out!
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

That looks awesome. I love the couch. I originally thought the coffee table wouldn’t work, even after DIY magic but now that I see it in that photo I think I see the potential.
You guys are my home decor heroes!!!

Wow. Your media wall looks great. Where do you get high gloss panels?
Tash @ thedreamhouseproject
Thanks Tara!! The panels are actually IKEA cover panels! We used the Ringhult panels in high gloss white:
