Kes & I love entertaining over the holidays.  Whether it’s elaborate family dinners or quick pop ins to deliver presents, the best part of this time of year is getting to spend time with friends and family. Often though, holiday entertaining is so focused on all things Christmas that by the time New Year’s Eve rolls around, we’re all partied out! We tend to stay in to ring in the new year so it’s easy for decor to become an after thought. But it doesn’t have to be that way!

Today we’re wrapping up our ‘Year of Feasting‘ by joining Danyelle of Life is a Party, along with a few other fantastic Canadian bloggers to share all of our New Year’s Eve inspiration with you.

If you’re like us and planning to stay in with a small group of friends or family this New Year’s Eve, you can still keep things festive without too much effort or strain on the wallet. Which if I’m being perfectly honest is most important after all that Christmas & Boxing Day shopping right?!

We put together this simple, yet stylish New Year’s Eve table using nothing more than a few craft supplies, dollar store favours, some finger foods & of course a favourite cocktail.

For the backdrop, we used some glittery scrapbooking paper that I cut into varying sizes of squares. I then arranged them into a geometric diamond pattern and stuck them on the wall. I added a twenty eighteen banner that I made from glitter alphabet stickers & banner paper sheets.

Our New Year’s Eve is typically pretty low key. We don’t do a big dinner, but rather spend the evening hanging out with family & close friends, chatting & nibbling on snacks while Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve provides the background entertainment. Finger foods are key. I like to make things that require minimal effort, cheese ball bites & garlic shrimp FTW!

And of course no New Year’s Eve celebration would be complete without a little bubbly.

Whenever we go out to eat, Kash orders a Shirley Temple to drink, so we figured why not make them at home?  They’re the perfect mocktail to have when you’ve got kids around. It’s fun for them to feel like they have a grown up drink. And for the adults in the room, you can just substitute the Sprite for your favourite champagne and you’ve got yourself a delicious bevvy to toast in the new year!

Add in a few hats & noise makers and you’re all set!
